Hey everyone, my name is Wendy and I’m here to share my weight loss journey. I have over 100 lbs to lose and I am determined to get it off once and for all. A lot of people post about weight loss AFTER they’ve lost all the weight, but I wanted to document the entire process for the world to see. I believe doing this will not only give me the motivation to keep going but help inspire others as well.
My history with weight and weight loss
I’ve always been big – both tall and large framed. I remember when I was in the 1st or 2nd grade, we got weighed at school and I was 99 lbs! Although, I didn’t look fat if you can believe it… at that point I was already over 5 ft tall. However by the 3rd grade on I started looking chubby. I wasn’t exactly obese growing up, but I was overweight.
When I was 19 I weighed around 230 lbs, which was heavier than I ever was before and I decided to lose weight. I dedicated myself to walking a lot and eating less. I got down to 195 and felt much better, although after getting in a serious relationship I put it all back on, and more.
By age 23 I had hit around 240, so I lost it all again. I got down to around 200 but gained it back again. That was the last time I had lost a significant amount of weight, although I did lose 10-20 lbs here and there every time New Years came around.
In August of 2016 I found out I was pregnant, and at my first prenatal checkup I weighed in at 266. The day I delivered I was 295! Fortunately the pregnancy weight came off super fast, but unfortunately, I put it all back on…
Why this time will be different
So in October of 2018, I stepped on the scale and was back up to my labor day delivery weight of 295.. eessh. That was how much I had weighed with a 10 lb baby + placenta + extra fluid…. except this time no baby. I felt absolutely horrible. My feet hurt, I had no energy and was always tired. None of my clothes fit and I just looked bad.
I decided I needed to get the weight off once and for all, no going back and forth again. This time I have a more motivating factor in my life – my daughter. She’s only a toddler now, and I want to be able to easily run around and play with her. I want to be able to see her grow up and be around for her for a long time. Now that I’m getting into my 30s, I know the chances of developing a weight-related health condition are only increasing.
I need to do this now and do it for my health. This time I am for real, giving up is not an option for me.
I’m putting myself out here to motivate and help others
It seems that when it comes to weight loss and diets, everyone is suddenly an expert. I know there’s a lot of misinformation and conflicting advice on how to lose weight. But having lost quite significant amounts of weight before, I know the process is rather simplistic. That’s not to say that doing it is easy, but it isn’t overly complicated. I believe in the common advice “eat less, move more” and I am applying that to my life.
I am putting myself out here to show people losing weight doesn’t have to be complicated, and you don’t have to follow a fad diet or quick fix to do so. No diet pills, no starvation, no surgery. I am using myself as PROOF it works.
Come follow my journey – we can do this together!

Hi Wendy, thank you for sharing your journey. My issue is with cravings. I’m pretty good at reasonable proportions at meal time. I exercise 3 or 4 times a week, plus gardening and walking the dogs. It’s just that once or twice a week I want ice cream, chocolate or custard pudding. Then it’s not just a serving but half a gallon! I’ll get ice cream bars, thinking I can eat just one for desert, but 5 bars later….It’s a flavor thing. Although, strange to say, the cravings are not quite as bad when I take a calcium/magnesium supplement.

I can totally relate, I have struggled with the same issues! It’s really a constant battle, although I find it easier to manage when I’m mentally “in the game”. There’s nothing more important than mindset on a weight loss journey and if I’m not 100% mentally prepared to handle it, I will easily give in to any cravings I may have. Like you, will easily eat an entire half-gallon of ice cream or a box of ice cream bars!
So something that helps me a lot is to find alternatives to the things I really like. For example, they have those pints of ice cream that are “healthier” and the best one to me is one from Target, Archer Farms reduced fat ice cream. They’re only like 330 calories for an entire pint! The Halo Top brand or Enlightened are really popular but I’m not the biggest fan of those. I also like sugar free jello because it basically has no calories and you can have something sweet without over-doing it. Instead of ordering pizza, I make it at home myself and can control the ingredients and amounts. These are just a few examples but you get the idea.
I wish you the best of luck!

Just curious how people feel about the new bars. I previously commented that my family and I LOVE built bars- I was someone that actually loved the texture of the old bars. I have tried the new bars and am so disappointed. My husband and I both liked the old ones so much better – especially the texture. The new ones are also more calories and went from 13 carbs to 18 carbs – they no longer fit into the diet plan I am following.
