I’m writing this Sweet Habit ice cream review because I’ve become sort of obsessed with finding the best low-calorie ice cream to fit into my diet, and I recently discovered these guys at my local Kroger. What attracted me to them was that they came in a full quart (2 pints) so it’s really half the price of the other major brands like Halo Top and Enlightened.
The company currently makes 4 flavors –
- Mint my Cookies
- Peanut Butter Fudge
- What the Caramel
- Cinnamon Bunned (I haven’t been able to find this one yet)
I will be trying all of them except the last since I haven’t been able to find it yet. I’ve only seen these at Kroger, but I’m sure they are sold elsewhere. They don’t seem to be as widespread as Halo Top.
Flavor
Mint my Cookies
The flavor of this was sweet and minty, just like you’d expect mint ice cream to taste like. What makes it even better are that there are actual cookie pieces in the ice cream that give it an Oreo taste as well, which I much prefer to the traditional addition of chocolate chips in mint ice cream.
PB and Fudge
This is a peanut butter ice cream with chocolate swirls mixed in, and it’s actually pretty good. It has a real peanut butter flavor, but I will say the chocolate was a little underwhelming. I think since the company chose “fudge” as part of the flavor name I was expecting more of a richer, fudgy flavor. It certainly has chocolate flavor mixed in with the peanut butter, but it was a little underwhelming and I wouldn’t call it fudge. Overall the flavor of this doesn’t scream amazing to me, but it’s actually not bad at all.
What the Caramel
What the Caramel looked like it’d be really good once I saw the HUGE swirls of caramel mixed in… but the flavor disappointed me. It’s VERY sweet, but the caramel flavor seemed kinda off to me. I’m not sure how to describe it other than it tasted more like brown sugar or something rather than creamy caramel. It’s also not a salted caramel so there’s no flavor contrast, it’s just very very sweet.
Consistency and Texture
After letting this sit out for a while (which you need to do with all low-calorie protein ice creams) I found the texture to be inconsistent. The mint and cookies flavor was overly icy, not smooth and creamy like traditional ice cream. However the PB Fudge and Caramel didn’t have that same super hard and icy texture after letting it thaw – it was much more similar to ice cream, although still harder and not as creamy.
And just to be clear none of these “healthy” ice creams have the exact smooth and creaminess of the real thing, but most of the other brands I’ve tried are better than Sweet Habit in terms of texture.
While the flavor of Sweet Habit isn’t bad, I don’t know why there was such a difference in the texture of the mint cookie one, and it would make me hesitant to buy this brand again. I don’t know if maybe it was just a bad batch or what, but I wouldn’t want to risk it especially considering the other flavors, although not icy, didn’t have the best texture either.
One thing I do like about this brand is they have a lot of mix-ins – the mint had real cookie chunks, the caramel had tons of caramel swirl, and the peanut butter fudge had chocolate mixed into it.
Sweet Habit Ice Cream Nutrition

For each pint (2 cups) there is 280 calories, 7 g of fat, 55 g carbs, and 20 g of protein and 14 g of sugar.
PB and Fudge Nutrition
Each 1/2 cup serving of Sweet Habit ice cream has 80 calories, 2.5 g of fat, 13 g of carbs, and 5 g of protein. (and only 4 grams of sugar as it’s sweetened with Erythritol)
For each pint (2 cups) there is 320 calories, 11 g of fat, 52 g carbs, and 20 g of protein and 17 g of sugar.
What the Caramel Nutrition
Each 1/2 cup serving of Sweet Habit ice cream has 70 calories, 1.5 g of fat, 14 g of carbs, and 5 g of protein. (and only 4 grams of sugar as it’s sweetened with Erythritol)
For each pint (2 cups) there is 280 calories, 6 g of fat, 56 g carbs, and 20 g of protein and 14 g of sugar.
That is a pretty good from a nutritional standpoint for an entire pint of ice cream. Sweet Habit is low-carb, low-fat, low sugar and has a high protein content.
Price
They were $5.99 each, but they are quart containers which means it has 2 pints per package. Taking that into consideration it is cheaper than popular brands such an Halo Top and Enlightened.
Overall – Would I recommend Sweet Habit’s low-calorie ice cream?
With better options available, I probably wouldn’t buy this brand again. Two of the three flavors I tried were good in terms of taste, but I had a hard time getting over the icy texture of the mint and cookies.
I would recommend another brand like Halo Top or Target’s Archer Farms low-calorie ice cream over this.

Maybe you could taste it and see if it’s still OK? As long as it’s been kept in the freezer it shouldn’t be unsafe, however, the taste is another story. I had some sitting in my freezer forever that was dated November 2018 and when I went to eat some it tasted absolutely horrible!
