I’ve been thinking of this topic a lot recently and that is, trying to help others and be inspiring within the weight loss community before you really hit your goal or at least before significant weight loss is achieved. It’s difficult for others to trust that you have any idea what you’re talking about when you haven’t it goal or gotten close to it. While I have lost over 30 lbs already, I’m still considered obese.
I have 2 main reasons for documenting my journey:
- So I can look back and see how far I’ve come, use it as inspiration when I’m feeling down or getting off-track. It’s hard to really know how much you’ve progressed unless you have a visual or written record of where you came from.
- For others – I want to prove that I know what I’m doing and that I can lose 100 lbs without starving myself or restricting food groups entirely, even without getting surgery. My hope is others who want to lose a significant amount of weight can find inspiration through seeing my journey – ALL of it, not just me giving advice after I’ve lost the weight.
Most people that come online and talk about weight loss come after they’ve already lost most of the weight (or all of it). I can understand why – it’s intimidating and embarrassing to document yourself losing weight especially when you are worried you’re going to fail, or you hate the way you look. I decided to get over it and just DO IT for myself and others – and I think the benefits will outweigh any embarrassment I am feeling currently.
I’ve lost 31 lbs so far and am determined to keep going. While I may have had a falling out earlier this year, I am over and jumping right back on the wagon. I will keep going until I reach my goal and prove to everyone I CAN do this. Hopefully, others will find that inspirational even if I have a difficult time proving myself until I get closer to being a “normal” weight.
It’s so difficult to get good information about weight loss with everyone trying to sell you miracle products or fad diets. I don’t really believe in those. I honestly believe in the calories in vs. calories out philosophy because my body has proven that is true, time and time again when I try to lose weight. I’ve never given up bread or sugar, or only at non-processed clean foods. I’ve lost weight eating anything as long as I keep my calories in a deficit. While everyone is different, and some have medical conditions, for the vast majority of people it will work.
I feel like I’m doing this for the right reasons and that whether I feel it’s happening or not, I can help others and connect with them throughout my journey.
Feel free to drop me a comment down below – does someone documenting their entire journey help motivate you, or do you find more inspiration in those that have already lost the weight and share their story after the fact?
